Biography of Mike McConnell

Mike McConnell embarked on his Desktop Support journey in 1987 when he joined the City of University Park. During his tenure, he successfully implemented the city’s first network in the Public Works department and took charge of supporting users, computers, peripherals, and the network. In 1994, Mike left the City of University Park after seven years of dedicated service.

Over the course of his career, Mike has worked for numerous organizations, including the Trane Company, Sprint, Carrier, Embarq, CenturyLink, Gospel for Asia, and several smaller companies. For an impressive span of 36 years, he has made supporting others his chosen career path. His expertise extends across a wide range of hardware, software, workstations, laptops, and servers, granting him a comprehensive and well-rounded experience.

During his tenure at CenturyLink, Mike held the distinction of having the largest territory among his peers. Encompassing areas from Kaufman to Longview, and Cooper to Groesbeck in Texas, his territory also included San Marcos, San Antonio, Port Aransas, Humble, and Kingwood. From his Athens, TX office, Mike efficiently provided support to a 200-user Call Center in San Marcos and a 100-user Call Center in Athens, managing all tasks with utmost professionalism. When he initially joined the company, there were seven technicians throughout the state of Texas. However, due to attrition, the number dwindled down to only two, with Mike and a technician in Dallas assuming support responsibilities for all the vacant areas.

Remote control support emerged as Mike’s primary method of assisting his user base, reducing the need for onsite visits to a minimum.

Throughout his career, Mike has offered support for various operating systems. He was well-versed in MS-DOS, all versions of Windows, Novell 3.11, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2019. Additionally, Mike possessed expertise in supporting VM Ware and HC3 for virtual servers.

At a certain point in his career, Mike held certifications with HP and Dell for technical support and repairs, further validating his skills and knowledge in the field.
